COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA, October 14, 2018– Teamwork makes the dream work, right? The Reiver Womens Basketball team volunteered at CreekTop Gardens today and made a world of difference.

Working alongside the staff of The 712 Initiative, the team spent their afternoon at the gardens working on many projects. The ladies cleared the brick walkway going in to the garden, painted picnic tables and tidied the garden plots.

The womens basketball team also finished mulching the walkways in the garden. This was a project that just a month prior the Reiver Cheerleaders worked on, and was started by Reiver Football players in the spring.

“It’s amazing to see these young people, from all over the country, give time and energy toward improving our community right here in Council Bluffs,” said Jeff Snow, Director of Programming and Events for The 712 Initiative.

This volunteer work is part of a larger goal to beautify the garden space.

Snow said, “Our goal is not only to make the garden an inviting place to grow your food, but also a place to host small events and gardening programs for our patrons.”

Plots for the 2019 season won’t be available for rent until early spring, but The 712 Initiative is looking for more volunteers to work in the gardens after the season ends October 31st.

If you or a group are interested in volunteering in the gardens, contact the 712 Initiative at 712-396-2494 or creektopgardens@the712initiative.org.
